Terms of use
Would you like to reuse our data? It’s free to do so, however there is a set of easy-to-comply-with conditions contingent to their use:
- Credit the dataset to Civio where used in your stories, articles, papers or investigations.
- In the reference, link to the file on this website that the data has been downloaded from.
- Do not make changes to the data, except to update them. If in doubt or where errors are found, please contact us.
- You must not ask for money or request a subscription for third parties to access the data. You must also not sell these for commercial or advertising purposes.
- You must not use programs or scripts to automate the republication of any of our datasets, as that is considered duplication of our website as opposed to reuse.
- We cannot guarantee the accuracy of all data, nor their completeness. Why not? Because some have been collated and treated previously by a public authority or specialist organization, We cannot verify each and every piece of data, but if we have published it here, it’s because it constitutes the best information we have found on the topic. Where we have found errors or inaccuracies, we have rectified the data. What we can clearly verify, however, is their origin: official sources in most cases. We can also explain the methodology behind their collection.
- We are responsible for the original data, but not for any irregular usage made of these.
- We are not always able to update the data on this page. It is also not always possible to warn about this. Thus, please always check the update date of the datasets you have used.
- Finally, if you do use our data, we would like to know what you’ve used them for. Although not mandatory, we would be delighted to know how they have helped you.
Why do we ask for your email address before downloading a dataset?
This is done for two reasons. Firstly, so that we know who is using them. By releasing these data, we aim to provide a public service, and we would like to know who makes use of said service—media outlets, institutions, social organizations, individual citizens, etc. Nothing makes us happier than the data being both used and useful, and this lets us find out if there are collectives that may be interested in using our data but haven’t yet done so.
Secondly, to improve the service. By having your contact details, we can let you know if we upload important updates relevant to the data of interest to you: new annual data on the same subject, serious errors found, or related datasets that you may be interested to hear of. Also, if it’s not too much trouble, we would like to ask you to support us and improve this infrastructure—although only on certain occasions. And if you sign up for the Civio newsletter too, we will also send you details of our main investigations.
